Advocates Plan for Another Active Legislative Session to Advance Gun Violence Prevention Policies

HARRISBURG – As it becomes clear that the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will retain its gun safety majority in the 2025-26 legislative session, advocates are making plans to push gun violence prevention policies in the Capitol next session. They are emphasizing the importance of state-level action in anticipation of a new federal administration that will be hostile toward gun violence prevention and will likely attempt to undermine the life-saving progress made by the Biden-Harris administration – including historic levels of funding for community violence intervention and implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

Adam Garber, Executive Director of CeaseFirePA, released the following statement:

“Voters sent a clear message to Harrisburg that gun violence prevention is popular. Not a single State Representative who voted for gun safety bills this session lost their re-election. The most productive gun safety majority in PA House history just got re-elected, and we’re moving full steam ahead on organizing our movement to make gun violence prevention a top issue next year in the General Assembly and in communities across the Commonwealth. And with a second Trump administration on the horizon and a rough road ahead for federal gun safety policy, our work at the state level will be all the more important to make our communities safer from gun violence.”
