Southeast PA Organizer

Every five hours a Pennsylvanian is lost to gun violence because our legislators fail to enact life-saving legislation. As the Commonwealth’s leading gun violence prevention advocacy organization, CeaseFirePA is hiring an organizer to expand our grassroots network, deepen our coalitions and hold elected officials accountable in Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County to end this epidemic.

Most Pennsylvanians support life-saving gun safety laws, but too many elected officials continue to ignore demands for action. Our Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County Organizer will help build the necessary power in the region to enact our Common Agenda and other critical policies.

As a vital member of CeaseFirePA’s Organizing Team, the Organizer will:

  • Expand a Grassroots Movement: You’ll build a core of volunteers ready to take part in actions such as lobbying, letter writing, canvassing, phone banking, and more. You’ll teach supporters how to understand our gun violence crisis and motivate them to use their voices in the name of saving lives.
  • Build strong partnerships: You’ll network with community leaders and activists, faith leaders, medical and educational professionals, anti-violence leaders, community activists, and law enforcement to build a volunteer base of committed partners advocating for life saving gun laws.
  • Change the narrative on gun violence prevention: By harnessing the power of storytelling, you’ll elevate the voices of survivors, gun owners, and public health officials to redefine our movement’s message in local media.
  • Advocate for policy solutions with decision-makers: You’ll lobby those in power by meeting with them and organizing protests, town halls, marches, and other engagement events to push them to be better on the issue of gun violence prevention.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record of building close relationships with volunteers and allies, and motivating them to take action
  • Compelling public speaking and writing skills that motivate, persuade, and mobilize citizens to drive change
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Ability to analyze and understand political landscapes
  • Self-starter who enjoys creating and implementing new projects and who also works productively in the context of a team
  • Ability to initiate conversations with potential new partners, communicate and interact effectively with people from different cultures and lived experiences

LOCATION: Greater Philadelphia area with a strong preference for someone who lives in or has strong ties to Northeast Philadelphia and/or Bucks County. **Must have own car and be willing to drive.

COMPENSATION: $40,000-$45,000 (or hourly equivalent) based on experience. As a full-time position, the organizer is eligible for our excellent benefits package including full-covered health care, paid time off, and 401(k).
